Tamara came, we explored Frankfurt and Vienna, Tamara left, I continued to explore Vienna, and now I am sitting at the airport, waiting for my plane to Dublin. I'M GOING BACK TO IRELAND!! As much as I love Vienna, I am SOOOO excited to get back to Dublin and Galway.
It occurred to me recently that perhaps going home via a multi-day stopover in Ireland was a good plan. People keep mentioning reverse culture shock, and although I've never experienced it before, I've also never been away this long. By stopping in Ireland, I think the transition back to English-speaking North America will be more gradual: first English-speaking, then 5 days later North America. Hopefully that will help :)
By the way, Vienna was fabulous as expected. The first day was a bit rough because we somehow got stuck in a really expensive area right when we were hungry, and by the time we found a place to eat that we could afford, we were nearly dead! But the weather was perfect (at least while Tamara was here - really hot and really sunny - I got tan lines! - but my last day was pouring rain), and I think we made it to nearly everthing that we wanted to visit. Fun times!
Looks like I'm out of time. Bis bald!

Hi, Heather!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your time in Ireland and have a safe trip back home. I'm really glad that your presentation turned out well. Your Maple Leaf cookie also looks delicious ... perhaps you could re-create that for a future MIISP meeting? (just kidding).
I look forward to seeing you when you're back on campus!
Best,
Kelly
